Maribel Ferrer is a senior bilingual and bicultural counselor with deep experience developing and managing national strategic Hispanic public relations programs. She has managed Hispanic public relations programs on behalf of AT&T, Cingular Wireless, and Federal Trade Commission, and has expertise in marketing communications, brand reputation, and consumer education platforms. Ms. Ferrer directs a team of Fleishman-Hillard Hispania professionals in the Southwest.
In 2003, while leading diversity marketing efforts on behalf of the former SBC (now AT&T), Ms. Ferrer led the development, content design, and implementation of the brand's first Spanish-language consumer Web site. More recently, Ms. Ferrer contributed to the communications effort surrounding the launch of Cingular's bilingual stores and the merger of AT&T. She also has worked on programs for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Nationwide, the Office of National Drug Control Policy, and P&G brands.
Ms. Ferrer also has experience leading general market consumer programs and spearheaded national marketing communications efforts for AT&T across the former 13-state SBC territory.
A seasoned Hispanic media relations expert, Ms.Ferrer has secured client coverage in Univision's Despierta America, EFE News Service, CNN en Espanol, La Opinion, El Nuevo Herald, and others. She also has served as Spanish-speaking spokesperson for clients, including AT&T and UPS. Her efforts in Hispanic media helped earn a Silver Anvil for UPS's Peak Season Holiday campaign in 2004.
Ms. Ferrer began her career in advertising, working at WING Latino Puerto Rico and Wunderman Cato Johnson on consumer accounts such as Snapple, Church’s Chicken, P&G, Gerber Foods, and Coors Light. She was a copywriter responsible for writing and developing concepts for TV, radio, and print.
Before joining Fleishman-Hillard in 1999, Ms. Ferrer was a business reporter with El Nuevo Dia, the largest daily newspaper in her native Puerto Rico. Her beats included communications, consumer technology, and media. She earned a Master of Science degree in journalism from Boston University. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in comparative literature from the University of Puerto Rico.
